Smoking is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the United States. About 420,000 deaths occur each year as a result of smoking cigarettes. Individuals who smoke are likely to develop peptic ulcer disease, and are more likely to develop cataracts, as opposed to non-smokers. People, who smoke, are ten times more likely to die from larynx cancer, esophagus, chronic obstructive lung disease, including emphysema. The risk becomes even higher if cigarette smoking is combined with alcohol use or with occupational exposure to certain types of toxic substances, such as asbestos.

Many individuals continue to smoke knowing these dangerous conditions, because they believe that smoking has benefits like stress relief, anxiety, pleasure, or weight maintenance, thinking that quitting smoking is difficult and won’t be an easy task to accomplish. Individuals who quit smoking however have a significantly lower life expectancy than continuing smokers. When smokers can quit at a young age, it is a huge benefit because they are exposing themselves relatively to fewer cigarettes.

Smokers experience symptoms such as persistent coughing, chest pain, and breathlessness. The fear of dying is what leads a lot of people to stop smoking cigarettes. It takes 2 or 3 serious efforts before this mission can be accomplished and sometimes may take even longer. Smoking cessation is usually a learning process in which mistakes made in the first attempt help improve odds of success during the next attempt. It is a slow process, which requires hard work. When the person finally hits the actual “quitting day”, the person stops smoking and it can be called as the final stage.

Many doctors give advice to all ex-smokers to avoid alcohol temporarily after quitting, since drinking alcoholic beverages seems to induce relapses in cigarette smoking. Because smokers use cigarettes to relieve anger, anxiety, and frustrations; quitting often makes it difficult to get through their daily routine. Those people may want to visit a psychologist, who may help them cope with their new problems or concerns.

Time and again, experts and psychologists insist on the importance of having a positive mindset. Their insistence is based on the proven fact that mental well-being is highly essential for physical well-being. By having a negative attitude, you become susceptible to many health problems.

Further, it has also been proved that positive-minded people are more efficient in their work than negative-minded people. They become less prone to illnesses because they possess a sense of well-being. They maintain excellent relationships with every one. Their confidence level is quite high and hence, they feel that they can achieve anything in this world.

But, statistics show that one in four people experience some mental health problem or the other every year. Experts have found out that the root causes for this problem are anxiety and feeling low about themselves. These mental health problems are similar to physical problems. When we are sick, our body fights the illness and similarly, when we are having mental health problems, we should develop our mental strength to fight the problems related to our mental health.

There are certain common mental health problems:

- Depression is one of the commonest mental health problems. Feeling sad for more than a few weeks is called depression. When you feel depressed, you may feel that whatever that is happening around you makes your situations helpless and hopeless. You may not be able to enjoy even joyous things that are happening. You may be unable to sleep or eat well. Some people may also cry without any reason. It is highly imperative that you should take immediate treatment for overcoming this problem. There are certain medications and psychotherapies available for solving this problem.

- Some people may get affected by panic and anxiety disorders, due to which they experience inexplicable fear. This fear may be accompanied by a lot of perspiration, chest pain, breathing trouble and dizziness. A few other people may also experience palpitations, nausea and headache. They may fear everything without any reason and will not be able to explain the reason for their fear. Counseling by experts and cognitive restructuring will help these patients. They should be counseled to divert their anxious thoughts by rational interpretations and this is possible only with the help of psychological experts.

- There is another problem called Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. This is also an anxiety disorder due to which the affected individual will experience extreme suffering caused by unwanted repetitive thoughts. If the individual is not treated on time, the problem may become worse. An example of this behavior is a person constantly worrying about things like getting infected by germs or becoming sick by having unclean hands, other unclean habits and so on. Counseling by an expert and appropriate medications will help to cure this problem.

- A major mental health problem is Schizophrenia. The individuals affected by this problem interprets situations in an abnormal manner. Due to such an extreme thinking, they have hallucinations and delusions and these things will make them behave abnormally. Some people affected by this may withdraw themselves from others and all activities. They live in a different world which will be controlled by psychosis. Psychotherapy done continuously and consistently and medications will help these people to come out of this problem. The treatment process may take a long time, depending upon the severity of the nature of the problem.

There are several other mental health problems but you should understand that all these problems happen due to mental stress and not having a practical approach to life. As Dale Carnegie and other experts suggest, if we compartmentalize our days and have a practical and positive approach to our lives, such problems will not arise at all in our lives.

Most of us are interested in living as long as we can, and at the same time increasing the quality of our lives. There are lots of methods that claim to help prolong life, but the most reliable way of increasing your lifespan is without a doubt, healthy living. Here our a few suggestions on how to have a healthier life.

Sleep! The benefits of proper sleep have often been researched, studied and reported. We are all different, but our need for adequate sleep is basically the same. Despite many people thinking they can get along with less sleep than others, this lack of sleep adds up and is linked to many health issues and their consequences. The average person needs about eight hours of sleep per night, although the timing and quality of such sleep also plays an important role.

Exercise! Keeping your body in shape is a sure way to increase your overall health, stay in shape, and consequentially reduce health risks associated to being overweight. An hour of daily exercise is recommended, but if your schedule doesn’t allow it, try to fit in at least four hours per week.

Eat right! To a certain extent, you are what you eat! Choosing what you eat carefully and avoiding fatty foods will help prevent health risks. Maintaining a balanced diet is vital to a healthy lifestyle. Plan healthy meals and avoid unnecessary snacking in between.

Relax! Stress is a very common word these days! The pace of our lives is constantly increasing and it is highly important that we find ways to reduce the stress levels that are built up daily. Find what works for you, whether it’s a hot bath, a night out with friends, or a walk down a deserted beach; getting rid of stress is crucial to your health.

Love! Believe it or not, love is linked to health. Those who love are less prone to several diseases and health problems. Whether you love a companion, your kids, grandkids, friends or a pet, it truly is the thought that counts when it comes to feelings of love.

Don’t smoke and try to avoid hanging around smokers. The negative consequences of cigarettes are well known be most of us. If you are a smoker, do your best to quit, and avoid hanging around friends who smoke.

Alcohol! Although a small amount of wine daily can be beneficial to your health, too much alcohol can have the opposite effect and drastic consequences. Moderation is the key.

Sunscreen! The sun is directly linked to aging, wearing protective clothing and adequate sunscreen when outdoors is extremely important. A glamorous tan may look good for a while, but the lack of one can help you live a lot longer.

Water! Drinking enough water is vital to staying healthy and to keep your body in running order. The quality of the water you drink is also very important.

Be happy! Happiness is vital to your health. A negative or bitter outlook on life is linked to several diseases. By thinking happy thoughts and wishing others well, we can help keep a positive mindset and be cheerful despite the adversities that constantly threaten to bring us down.

It goes without saying that everyone hopes to have, and maintain, good health. Sometimes though, with the wealth of information available online it can be difficult to sift through all the complexities and find a good, simple to follow plan. That is why I have created this easy health plan that anyone can follow to achieve a healthy lifestyle.

Diet

For many, diet is a scary word. However when I say diet I don’t mean “only eat 1,000 calories worth of lettuce”, I mean eating a health balanced diet. The general recommendation is 2,000 calories per day for a woman and 2,500 calories for a man. It also matters where you get these calories from. You should cut down on foods containing high amounts of animal fats and salt as these can cause lead to heart problems and often contain very few nutrients. Instead you should try to eat more lean meat, fruit, vegetables and cereals, snacking on items such as nuts and yoghurt.

Most people tend to eat three big meals a day but it is much better for you to eat between four and six smaller meals a day. This puts less stress on your digestive system, and gives you a constant supply of energy throughout the day.

What you drink is also very important. A glass of water contains almost no calories whereas a glass of regular Cola contains 140 calories and is full of additives. So try to drink water rather than soda.

Exercise

It is very important, for both physical and mental health to take regular exercise. You don’t have to become a gym rat but 30 minutes of exercise three times a week is enough to keep your body in good health. This exercise could take the form of brisk walking, jogging, lifting weight, aerobics or whatever physical activity you enjoy – as long as it gets your heart pumping it will do you well.

I would recommend that you employ a one day-on, one day-off system where you exercise one day, take the next day off and so on so that you build up a regular routine.

Hygiene

Hygiene is an issue that sometimes is forgotten when talking about health but it is important to keep good hygiene to avoid germs and bacteria that can causes illnesses. Keeping good hygiene is pretty easy and most people will already be following a good plan.

Washing your hands, disinfecting your kitchen and bathroom and vacuuming regularly as well as properly cooking meats will kill germs and keep you safe and healthy.

Relax

Relaxing allows your body and mind time to rest and recover from the everyday stresses that are put on them. Relaxing is probably the easiest thing to do on this list. You find something that you enjoy and make the time to do it. Some particularly relaxing hobbies include meditation, yoga, reading and self hypnosis.

Socializing

Scientific research shows that people who socialize regularly feel happier and live longer. So endeavor to spend quality time with your family and/or friends.

Remember that you can mix socializing with both relaxation and exercise. You could, for example, take a yoga class with a friend – or make friends whilst you are there.

I hope that this plan will give you an easy way to maintain your good health in 2011.

When sebum gets trapped inside your pores with dirt and bacteria you come into contact with from the outside world, your skin gets infected. This infection can become pimples (inflamed), blackheads and whiteheads (not inflamed).

What we eat can either promote or prevent acne. If we eat oily food, then we would be contributing to the over-production of oil in our skin. On the other hand, if we eat what’s only good for our bodies, then our skin will naturally become healthy and clear. The following are types of food you can eat to get rid of acne naturally.

1. Anti-oxidize me.

Anti-oxidants help you fight against toxins and poisons in your body. Fruits such as blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, apples, plums and tomatoes are all rich in anti-oxidants. Beans, peas and whole grains are also anti-oxidants too. And the greatest news of all: dark chocolate. Contrary to popular belief, dark chocolate (in moderation) will actually do good to your skin and not cause breakouts.

2. Zinc is for zits.

Research has it that zinc found in many foods – such as legumes, seeds, nuts and whole-grains – is the best acne-beater nature has to offer. You can also opt to take zinc supplements. But you have to make sure you take no more than 50mg a day.

3. Vitamin A

Yes, we learned it all in grade school. Vitamin A gives us strong and healthy hair, nails and skin. Among the foods rich in vitamin A are: oatmeal, dark green vegetables (like broccoli) and deep yellow fruits.

Eat a healthy dose of these kinds of food and you’ll be on your way to healthy clear skin!

For decades, millions of us across the country have searched for the phone numbers of friends, family members, associates, even future acquaintances by their name. We have many reasons for doing this. We may have lost their number, they may have changed their number, and in the case of work colleagues or new acquaintances, we may not even have their number yet. I’ve also encountered numerous occasions where myself and a new friend agreed to contact each other on the phone at a later date, and forgot to exchange numbers. Sometimes it happens in the heat of the moment.

Searching by Name for Cell Phone Numbers

So now that the vast majority of our population is switching to cell phone numbers, can we still find them by name? The short answer is no. It is currently against industry practices to allow cell phone directories which provide search by name for cell phone numbers. The primary reason for this is the theory that telemarketers and the DMA will begin soliciting cellular phone users for selling products.

However, reality is not so simple as some would have you believe. Regardless whether cell phone numbers are made public, it would still be illegal via federal regulations for telemarketers to call cell phones. The Direct Marketing Association themselves has pledged to avoid calling cellphones with respect to the fact that we have to pay for our minutes!

So unfortunately, all that happens is we lose the ability to find our current or potential future contacts in turn for the false sense of security associated with the idea of privacy protection from telemarketing calls. On top of this, we’re still subject to any potential privacy violations on the part of government or regulating authorities, whether it can be justified or not!

How Cell Phone Privacy Fails

The truth is, current cell phone privacy practices are not even that effective. Millions of corporations worldwide have been mining your data for decades and keeping it in their own databases. Almost everything there is to know about a person can already be found out by someone using the correct tools.

And there are already many calls coming to cell phones from unscrupulous parties which have located your number. Ever notice that ‘cellular call’, ‘unknown call’, ‘inbound call’, or other ambiguous, obnoxious entry on your caller id? I thought so. I get them almost daily. You likely do to. Cell phones are not exempt. WiFi phones are not exempt. Even house phones on the national ‘do not call’ registry are not exempt from these annoyances! And these illegal calls would be entirely unabated by additional privacy measures! So much for the idea of a government saving the world’s population from danger.

How to Fix the problem with your Own Hands

Yet all things have a natural balance when they’re not artificially manipulated by some intervening party, and technology is no exception. Most people will never have access to your number. But the few that do, and place obnoxious, even illegal calls on a regular basis, can still be stopped. How? By identifying and reporting them. The key is identifying them, and for this we can use a ‘reverse phone directory’. These directories simply take information from the already available millions of public records and put it all in one place. We can search them in seconds and find a caller’s name, address, background info, associated business entities, and more.

Hence, even without further regulation, our numbers can stay private from the majority while we get to keep the tools which help us stop the criminal minority from doing what they will always be able to do – reduce the quality of our lives!
